Kumho Tyres: Distributor to Direct Sales model change

Background

Kumho Tyre (UK) Ltd is the UK subsidiary of Kumho Tire of Korea, one of the World’s top ten tyre manufactures producing more than 68 million, car, van & truck tyres per annum and available in 180 countries around the world.

Project

To achieve the change in UK operations from distributor channel model to direct sales Kumho tyres were supported by Davies & Robson in appointing a project manager to lead the supply chain changes required for a smooth transition and subsequent operations. As part of broader consultancy support in appointing the new third-party logistics provider, this included a period as supply chain manager following the change, whilst a permanent appointment was made for the role.

Results

The appointed interim, Tim:

• Managed the relationship with the appointed 3PL provider
• Planned the phased build-up of stock
• Managed the delivery of SAP interfaces to the WMS
• Developed forecasting models and VB macro price lists
• Developed a supply chain organisational structure and job descriptions
• Provided ongoing process improvement support
